RE: November’s Planning for a Web site project

Good overview of all the parts and pieces that have relevance to the site planning process. Just one afterthought. In our “Web Development Cycle” planning documentation we include a section in which we determine what standards need to be met for a given site. For instance, at one extreme, if the many of the audience are likely to be visually impaired, then obviously very high accessibility standards will need to be in place. On the other hand, for a small, temporary site that is for a limited number of people, down and dirty might be ok (though I still think that getting used to working in compliance with good standards is a good habit).

December Webmasters Meeting: A Wiki Overview

What’s The Deal With Wikis?
This month’s Webmasters meeting will feature an overview of wikis and wiki technology presented by Steve Segedy of the ITS Knowledge Management group. The meeting will take place this Thursday, December 6th at 2pm.

Steve will provide a basic overview of wikis as a concept, describe a few specific wiki technologies, and cover some of the key issues and concerns about using them for your projects. This will be a discussion-based presentation, with plenty of time for questions and answers from the group.

What Do You Want To Know About Wikis?
In order to best gauge the level of interest and expertise among the webmasters group, we would like to call for questions you might have about wikis. What would you like to know? What issues or topics are important to you? Feel free to leave comments here or email Steve directly at segedy@email.unc.edu with your suggestions.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Date: Thursday, December 6
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
